You Were There

When I look back on my life there will only be a few people
who met me at the crossroads.  People who knew what I needed
long before I did...who weren't afraid to risk our relationship
by telling me what I should hear...who lifted me up and gave
me the courage to continue.

Looking back on our relationship, I realize you are
one of those people.  I have to believe God sent you to
help Him move me in the direction He wanted me to go.
Thank you for being there for me, and for Him.

give you.  He has allowed you to be here in this time in history
to fulfill His special purpose for this generation.

Learning

I’ve learned- that you cannot make someone love you.
All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.

I’ve learned- that no matter how much I care,
some people just don’t care back.

I’ve learned- that it takes years to build up trust,
and only seconds to destroy it.

I’ve learned- that it’s not what you have in your life
but who you have in your life that counts.

I’ve learned- that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes.  After that, you’d better know something.

I’ve learned- that you shouldn’t compare yourself to the best others can do.

I’ve learned- that you can do something in an instant
that will give you heartache for life.

I’ve learned- that it’s taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I’ve learned- that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I’ve learned- that you can keep going long after you can’t.

I’ve learned- that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I’ve learned- that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I’ve learned- that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place.

I’ve learned- that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I’ve learned- that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I’ve learned- that my best friend and I can do anything
or nothing and have the best time.

I’ve learned- that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you’re down will be the ones to help you get back up.

I’ve learned- that sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel.

I’ve learned- that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

I’ve learned- that just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

I’ve learned- that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you’ve had and what you’ve learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you’ve celebrated.

I’ve learned- that you should never tell a child their dreams are unlikely or outlandish. Few things are more humiliating, and what a tragedy it would be if they believed it.

I’ve learned- that your family won’t always be there for you. It may seem funny, but people you aren’t related to can take care of you and love you and teach you to trust people again. Families aren’t biological.

I’ve learned- that no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I’ve learned- that it isn’t always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you are to learn to forgive yourself.

I’ve learned- that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn’t stop for your grief.

I’ve learned-that our background and circumstances but we are responsible for who we become.

I’ve learned-that just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other And just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do.

I’ve learned- that we don’t have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I’ve learned- that you shouldn’t be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

I’ve learned- that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I’ve learned- that no matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get hurt and you will hurt in the process.

I’ve learned- that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don’t even know you.

I’ve learned- that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.

I’ve learned- that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I’ve learned- that the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.

I’ve learned- that it’s hard to determine where to draw the line between being nice and not hurting people’s feelings and standing up for what you believe.

THE CROSS ROOM

The young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer. "Lord, I can’t go on," he said.  "I  have too heavy a cross to bear."

The Lord replied, "My son, if you can’t bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then, open that other door and pick  out  any cross you wish."

The man was filled with relief.  "Thank you, Lord," he sighed, and he did as he was told.

Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses, some so large the tops were not visible.

Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. "I’d like  that one, Lord," he whispered. And the Lord replied," My son, that  is  the cross you just brought in."

When life’s problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and  see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined.

I don't know what your destiny will be,
but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy
are those who have sought and found how to serve.

--Albert Schweitzer

God’s Boxes of Love

I have in my hands two boxes which God gave me to hold he said, "put all your sorrows in the black, and all your joys in the gold." I heeded his words, and in the two boxes both my joys and sorrows I store but though the gold became heavier each day the black was as light as before. W ith curiosity, I opened the black I wanted to find out why and I saw, in the base of the box, a hole which my sorrows had fallen out by.  I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud, "I wonder where my sorrows could be." He smiled a gentle smile at me.  "My child, they’re all here with me."   I asked, "God, why give me the boxes, "why the gold, and the black with the hole?"  "My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings, the black is for you to let go."

We were not sent into this world
to do anything into which we can not put our heart.

"If Tomorrow Never Comes"

If I knew it would be the last time that I’d see you fall asleep, I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep, If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time I’d hear your voice lifted up in praise, I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute or two to stop and say "I love you," instead of assuming, you would KNOW I do. If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day, well I’m sure you’ll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there’s always tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chance to make everything right.

There will always be another day to say our "I love you’s", And certainly there’s another chance to say our "Anything I can do’s?"

But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get, I’d like to say how much I love you and I hope we never forget, Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike, And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight..

So if you’re waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today? For if tomorrow never comes, you’ll surely regret the day, That you didn’t take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss and you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today, whisper in their ear, Tell them how much you love them and that you’ll always hold them dear, Take time to say "I’m sorry," "please forgive me," "thank you" or "it’s okay".

And if tomorrow never comes, you’ll have no regrets about today.

There are only two people who can tell you the truth about yourself -- an enemy who has lost his temper
and a friend who loves you dearly.

-- Antisthenes

THE STORY OF LIFE

Sometimes people come into your life and  you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be (possibly your roommate, neighbor, coworker, long lost friend, or even a complete stranger), *but when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment they will affect your life in some profound way.*

And sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower, or heart.

*Everything happens for a reason. *

Nothing happens by chance or by means of good luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience, help to create who you are and who you become. *Even the bad experiences can be learned from. * In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones.

If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious when you open your heart.

If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.

*Make every day count. *

Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again.

Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and actually listen.

Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high.

Hold your head up because you have every right to.

Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, it will be hard for others to believe in you.

You can make of your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets.

*Most importantly*!!!

*if you LOVE someone tell him or her, for you never know what tomorrow may have in store. *

And learn a lesson in life each day that you live.

THAT’S THE STORY OF LIFE

Resolved, never to do anything which I should be afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life. --Jonathan Edwards

I AM THANKFUL FOR......

The mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends.

The taxes I pay because it means I'm employed.

The clothes that fit a little to snug because it means I have enough to eat.

My shadow who watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine.

The lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.

The spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking.

The complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech.

The huge heating bill because it means I am warm.

The lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means that I can hear.

The piles of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear.

The alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I'm alive.

The weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been productive.

Life gets so busy and competitive that we forget what's really important. May all the people you know and love be thankful always.

Our deepest fear is NOT that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be?? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you! We were born to manifest the glory of God within us. Its not just in some of us, its in everyone--and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others!

Our spirit knows when we are on the right path. When we make a decision that we feel good about, we receive it as energy that propels us along a particular path...Our passion is the energy through which we serve our purpose. When we serve our purpose, we feel our passion. By following our passion, we will tap into the energy God gives us to serve our purpose.
--Betty J Eadie, The Awakening Heart

What is it that you lost that you are grieving for?
What is it that you brought into this world, that you have lost?
Whatever you gained, you gained from this world. Whatever you lost , you lost to this world.
What Belongs to you today, Belonged to someone else yesterday
and will belong to someone else tomorrow.
--The Hindu Scripture - Bhagavad Gita

Miracles are not in contradiction TO nature.
They are only in contradiction to what we know OF nature.
-- St. August

It is good to have an end to journey toward;
but it is the journey that matters, in the end.
--Ursula LeGuin

There are two kinds of failure:
failure to love and failure to achieve self-worth.
--William Glasser

This is the true Joy in life,
the being used for a purpose
recognized by yourself as a mighty one.
