TEXAS INDEPENDENCE RELAY part 2
Sun City Striders finish second in the men's veteran division. We experienced our own victory at the Texas Independence Relay! 40 Relay legs carried runners along the 203.67 mile course from Gonzales and the first shot for Texas Independence to the final battle at San Jacinto Battlefield. We were tracing the very footsteps of the brave men and women who came before us - fighting for Texas' Independence and helping shape all that we saw! We were inspired to help benefit the Ronald McDonald House and the San Jacinto Museum of History Association so that they can continue to help others with their challenges and preserve the history we've inherited. We visited the small towns of Shiner, Moulton, Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar, Borden, Columbus, Altair, Eagle Lake, Wallis, Orchard, Simonton, and Fulshear. We made our way through the paramount city of Houston, experiencing it in a way we never have before! Racing on a team with our friends in this unique format over an incomparable span of Texas steeped with momentous history all amounted to a GREAT time that we will fondly remember for years to come! This all took place over Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, 2008. "Come and take it!" We have what it takes! |
